- Understand how immunity works
- Understand the key elements of the skin, including the structure, function and nutrition
- Understand how to identify and prevent common skin conditions of the feet
- Understand how to treat the common skin conditions of the feet
- Be able to communicate effectively with patients and other health professionals
- Understand how to write patient notes and letters of referral in a clear and concise manner
- Understand how infection is caused and spread
- Understand how practitioners maintain personal hygiene
- Understand how to sterilise instruments, disinfect the clinical area and correctly dispose of waste
- Understand the structure, function and nutrition of the nails
- Identify the common nail conditions
- Be able to effectively treat nail dystrophies

- Understand how blood sugar contributes to diabetes
- Understand the complications of diabetes and how they can affect foot care
- Be able to support patients with diabetes through foot care
- Understand how to set up a business as a self employed individual

- Identify and apply paddings & dressings to the foot
- Effectively use foot care instruments

- Be able to safely carry out foot treatments, including safe nail cutting
- Be able to perform abrasion techniques on both the nails and skin
- Effectively record and evaluate your observations, treatment and conclusion
