What is 0W-20 full synthetic oil used for? ›

Mobil Full Synthetic 0W-20 motor oil is recommended for all types of gasoline-powered vehicles, such as passenger cars, SUVs, light-duty vans and trucks, including models with turbocharged engines.

Lexus vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic oil is required have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000-miles/12-months. However, you should continue to check the oil level regularly and top off if needed.

Thicker Oil May Not Flow Quickly Enough

USING HIGH-MILEAGE SYNTHETIC OIL IN HIGH-MILEAGE ENGINES

Aside from seal incompatibility, leakage may be caused by the cleaning of a residue buildup from engine areas where it was previously sealing a leak. This is quite rare today, as modern synthetic oils have evolved over the years to prevent this issue.

“On a full-synthetic oil change, some manufacturers say that those can go up to 7,500 miles or six months without an oil change. At Joplin Transmission and Auto Center, we always recommend doing them between 5,000 and 10,000 miles, or every six-to-twelve months,” said Ruhl.

Better For Older Engines

This being said, however, it is still not recommended to use synthetic oil in engines that have experienced significant actions – specifically, those that have reached around 75,000 miles on the odometer.

In general, though, modern cars can manage 5,000 to 7,500 miles between oil changes. If your vehicle calls for a blended or full synthetic oil, you can push that to 10,000 miles.

That value is the one most critical aspect to match when selecting a motor oil. The 0W or 5W refers to the pumpability in cold temperatures. Therefore, a 0W would flow more easily than a 5W and could be an acceptable substitute. Thus, it is suitable to use a SAE 0W-20 as a replacement for SAE 5W-20 application.

While using 5W-30 oil instead of 0W-20 may not cause immediate harm to your engine, it can affect fuel economy, engine efficiency, and potentially lead to increased wear over time.

0W-20, for example, is rated at 104°F (40°C) for external temperatures, and 212°F (100°C) for internal engine temperatures. So, the 0W rating of most oils, including ENEOS, is within operational parameters of warmer climates like Hawaii, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
