Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (2024)

Debates are common among the ever-expandingThe Witcher 3fanbase. Since the RPG's release in 2015, fans have argued about the best romances, the superior expansion, and which Witcher armor is the most aesthetically pleasing. There is usually a large portion of fans on every side of a debate.

However, occasionally some people share an opinion that is so unusual that few back them up. These alternate viewpoints shouldn't be scoffed at, though, as they're actually the most interesting ones. Is the game's saddest moment actually that heart-breaking?Is the best female in the game from the Blood and Wine expansion? These debates are more captivating than the tired Yen or Triss arguments, and they both start with an unpopular opinion. Reddit has many of these alternate viewpoints; here are a few of the best.

10 Game Should End Earlier

At the end of Witcher 3's second act, Geralt, Ciri, and all of their allies stand their ground at Kaer Morhen and take on The Wild Hunt. It's an exhilarating point of the game, and in at least one Redditor's opinion, it should be the end. They feel that everything that comes after the Battle of Kaer Morhen is unnecessary and that the actual last quest is unimpressive by comparison.

A climactic fight at the Witcher keep would've ended the game on a high. Yet, it would've also meant missing out on some of the exciting things that come later, like saving the sorceresses and entering different worlds.

9 Triss Shouldn't Be A Romance Option

Choosing between Triss and Yennefer isone of the game's most difficult decisions. And the fanbase is very split on which is the best sorceress to romance. Well, one brave Reddit user suggests that Triss shouldn't even be an option.

They don't elaborate as to why they feel that way, perhaps it's because the sorceress took advantage of Geralt's amnesia, or maybe they feel the Witcher should only have eyes for Yennefer. Whatever the reason, you'd think the more romantic options, the better.

8 The Voice Acting Is Weak

Witcher's 3 deep and complex characters are one of the biggest selling points of the game. And plenty of credit is given to the people providing their voices as they're the ones who bring the characters to life.

Yet, a certain Redditor thinks the voice acting isn't that great. Most of their scorn is aimed at Jo Wyatt, who voices Ciri. But they also think the vocal performances, in general, are below the standard of many other games. With the insane amount of dialogue there is in the game, it must've been a living hell for this user to play through.

7 Shouldn't Be Multiple Endings

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (4)

Like with most RPGs, your choices throughout the Witcher 3 dictate which of the endings you receive. Although, someone on Reddit argues that this type of storytelling doesn't fit the game. They feel that as Geralt already has an established personality from the books, you shouldn't get to choose what big decisions he makes.

The opinion makes sense as some of the most significant choices do feel out of character for the grizzled Witcher. On the other hand, though, an RPG that doesn't let you seriously affect the story would've led to heavy backlash.

6 The duch*ess Is The Best Female Character

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (5)

The Witcher 3 is filled with a litany of great female characters such as Yennefer, Triss, and Ciri. Yet, when naming the best women in the series, rarely is the duch*ess from the Blood and Wine expansion included, much to the disappointment of one Redditor.

In their mind, Anna Henrietta is better than every other female in the RPG due to being a badass and having a fun storyline. They also find faults in Yennefer and Triss, claiming the former is frustrating while the latter is a little cheesy.

5 Vesemir's Death Isn't Sad

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (6)

Late in the Battle of Kaer Morhen, Vesemir tries to stop Ciri from going with the Hunt and is killed by Imlerith. For many fans, it's the most tear-jerking moment in the game. Not everyone agrees, though, as someone on Reddit doesn't find the moment saddening.

Their reasoning is based on the fact that Vesmir doesn't appear all that often in either the games or the books, so they don't really care about him. While they make a decent point, it's still surprising that someone can witness Geralt's heart-breaking reaction and not feel heartbroken themselves.

4 Geralt And Yennefer Have No Chemistry

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (7)

The relationship between Geralt and Yennefer is one of the most significant in the game, regardless of whether they're romantically involved. As a team, they do all they can to track down Ciri, continually bickering and bantering along the way.

Surprisingly, one fan doesn't believe that the pair share any chemistry. It's an interesting viewpoint because even if you see Geralt and Triss as the better couple, it's hard to deny the entertaining rapport that the Djinn-linked duo share. Unfortunately, the fan doesn't elaborate on their unique opinion.

3 Disliking Ciri

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (8)

Despite being a major character in the books, Ciri doesn't appear in video game form until the third instalment. And she quickly becomes one of the most important characters in the series. Although, not the best, according to at least one Redditor.

They struggle to truly articulate why they're not a fan of the protagonist, but both the voice acting and her behavior is mentioned. Also, her memorable line of"What do you know about saving the world? You're but a Witcher" really annoys the user for its perceived lack of respect.

2 Gwent Is The Worst Part Of The Game

gwent cards

An aspect of The Witcher 3 that garners nearly universal praise is Gwent. The addictive card game is as fun as it's challenging and is a big reason why fans sink so many hours into the RPG.

Although, with anything that's insanely popular, it has its detractors. One can be found on Reddit, who complains about the ridiculousness of some of the cards and wishes there was an opinion to get rid of the Gwent quests completely. The person does admit that they're not very good at the game, so maybe they'd enjoy it more if they hadsome of the better cards.

1 The Main Story Is Overrated

Witcher 3: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Reddit) (10)

Out of everything The Witcher 3 does right, the storytelling is what many fans appreciate the most. Geralt's search for Ciri is an exciting and compelling adventure that includes plenty of twists and turns.

There is a Reddit user, however, that isn't as enarmed with the main storyline. They say they feel no connection to Ciri, Geralt is bland, and The Wild Hunt is underdeveloped. The complaint about the Hunt is fair, and the lack of connection to Ciri is understandable as she doesn't appear a lot in the game. But Geralt being bland? The Redditor goes as far as calling the Witcher a "generic action movie protagonist," which certainly is an unpopular opinion.
